Regular tests are an important tool to fight COVID-19. With the „Alles gurgelt!“ campaign, everyone in Vienna has the possibility of taking a PCR test for COVID-19 regularly and free of charge.

Taking tests on a regular basis ensures safety in everyday life – both in your private environment and at your workplace. Chains of infection can be broken quickly and efficiently only if a person knows that they are infected. The more people in Vienna undergo regular tests, the easier it will be to control COVID-19 and return to a normal everyday life. The medical report and the Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate (valid photo ID required!), showing the negative result, can also be used as an entrance test for using the services of a hair salon, going to a restaurant or attending a cultural event.

All persons staying in Vienna or the districts of Linz, Gmunden and Vöcklabruck in Upper Austria (For further information about “Alles gurgelt” in Upper Austria, please visit https://allesgurgelt.at/oberoesterreich/).

All information about the project “Alles gurgelt!” can be found on the website allesgurgelt.at. There you will also find the instructions to register for the LEAD Horizon web app, where you will receive a barcode. This test used is a PCR test by the LEAD Horizon company. Evaluation of the COVID-19 test by means of the PCR procedure allows for the detection of even minimal amounts of the virus and before the first symptoms occur. The PCR method is considered the reliable “gold standard” among COVID-19 tests and is well established internationally.

To get an exact test result, you should gargle in the morning after you get up and before you brush your teeth or have breakfast. This is an efficient way to ensure a reliable diagnosis of COVID-19. Gargling is the ideal method. Rinsing your mouth is the second best choice because it is not as efficient to detect the virus. If you find it difficult to gargle, you can also just rinse your mouth (e.g. children may find it easier to rinse their mouth and not gargle).

The big advantage of gargling is that the entire throat area comes into contact with the saline solution. As a result, a sample of the entire inside of the throat is taken and collected in the tube, while test staff can only take a sample of a very small area of the throat with the cotton tip. Moreover, gargling/rinsing permits taking a sample comfortably and reliably at home, which would be difficult with a throat swab.

The PCR method is very sensitive and therefore able to detect an infection several days, and at least 3 days, before any symptoms occur. This means that if you take a PCR test and this test is negative, it is extremely probable that you cannot infect others over the next 3 days. This creates a high level of safety for a longer period.

There is no age limit. Once a child is old enough to rinse their mouth with a saline solution and then spit the saliva through the transfer tube into the buffer tube, the test can be performed.

You can register additional family members, who do not have their own email address, under your profile for them to get tested. All you need to do is click on “Person hinzufügen” (“Add additional person”) under your profile in the LEAD Horizon web app under the question “Wer wird jetzt getestet” (“Who is taking the test?”) and add additional family members. Please note: You receive a separate email with a separate link for every result, which matches one specific sample number. The web app is available in the following languages: German, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Bulgarian, English, Hungarian, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish, and Turkish.

The QR code is in the self-test set packaging. The web app will open after scanning it with the camera of your smartphone. Of course, you can also access the website with your smartphone directly via your browser. For this, please enter the address printed on the packaging of your test set.

You can find your sample number on the test tube and on the information leaflet enclosed with your test set. This number always begins with LHI. Each sample number can only be used once.

When you take the test, you will be asked to scan a photo ID to verify your identity. If the scan was successful, you will be asked to allow access to your camera. This procedure has to be carried out only once when establishing your user profile. While conducting your COVID-19 test, four photos will be taken during the entire test procedure, which serves to prevent any sort of cheating or fraud during the test. The document number of your photo ID, which you scanned in the beginning of the procedure, will be shown on the medical report.

You do not necessarily need any proof of identity, and you can skip this step in the web app. This verification of identity is recommended if you need a medical report that can also be used as an entrance test (“green passport”). If you skip the verification of identity or if this verification is interrupted, you will still receive the test result after the test procedure was concluded, but you will not receive any valid medical report (“green passport”) that entitles you to go to a hair salon or use any other, similar services.

For the web app, the scanning function for passports, ID card or e-cards was integrated to ensure proof of identity. If the automatic scanning process does not work, you can choose to click on “zur manuellen Eingabe” (“manual data entry”) and enter your data manually and upload a photo of your personal ID document. At the moment, it is possible to scan passports, ID cards and e-cards, but no other forms of personal ID documents such as driving licences. If you have no document of the type mentioned above, please continue without proof of identity. You will still receive a test result, but no medical report and no Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate you can use for going to a hair salon or restaurant.

Please check whether you have allowed your device to use the camera. You can change this in the settings of your device. If you are using a company device, this problem may be due to the settings installed by your IT department. Please contact this department/the person in charge or use a different device. As an alternative, you can also perform the test without verification of identity. Please remember, however, that in this case you will not receive a medical report or a Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate.

In principle, it is not possible to evaluate a sample without use of the web app and, hence, without stating your data. LEAD Horizon stores the data of the test participants, their COVID-19 infection status as well as technical telemetry data necessary for the operation of the web app and for carrying out the tests. The data are stored by the German enterprise Hetzner Online GmbH, which operates an ISO-certified computing centre and deletes these data 14 days after delivery of the test result. LEAD Horizon communicates your social security number, name, phone number, postal address and email address to the Lifebrain COVID lab. The lab findings are submitted to the health authority and further processed as follows: All positive test results are communicated to the Epidemiological Information System of the City of Vienna, where they are stored and deleted after expiry of the prescribed retention period. nAll negative test results are communicated to the screening database of the City of Vienna, where they are stored and deleted after expiry of the prescribed retention period. The photos are viewed by selected staff members of LEAD Horizon for quality assurance purposes as well as in case of complaints. These data, too, are deleted 14 days after delivery of the test result.

Of course, your data will be treated confidentially and stored only for a short period (14 days) in order to be able to issue a medical report and a Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate on request as well as to be able to notify the health authority accordingly, as is mandatory under the Austrian Epidemics Act.

The test set manufacturer LEAD Horizon GmbH processes your data with your consent. Your data will be transmitted to the Lifebrain COVID lab, which further processes your data on its own responsibility. The Lifebrain COVID lab is obligated under the law to communicate the results to the competent health authority. Your data will not be disclosed to third parties.

No, REWE cannot view your data (this also applies to all of its outlets or shops, such as BILLA, BILLA PLUS, BIPA and PENNY as well as the petrol station shops BP MERKUR inside, JET BILLA STOP&SHOP, SHELL BILLA Unterwegs). Only the staff of the Lifebrain COVID lab and of the test set manufacturer LEAD Horizon have access to your data. Since data privacy is very important to us, we store your data for a period not exceeding 14 days. After this, the data are deleted.

The web app sends out the emails instantaneously. If you have tried to register via a company email address and have received no email, please contact your in-house IT department. It might be that your firewall is blocking the service@lead-horizon.org sending address. Another possibility is that the email has ended up in your spam folder – please check this, too. If several minutes have gone by without your receiving an email either in your inbox or in your spam folder, this may be because your server (including e.g. GMX, Yahoo, etc.) retrieves emails sent to you at longer intervals and not continuously. In this case, please wait or select “Verifizierungsmail überspringen“ (“Skip verification email”) in the email verification. If you have an alternative email address, please use it.

If you have submitted proof of your identity, you will always receive two emails, which arrive more or less at the same time. One contains a notice from LEAD Horizon to enable you to retrieve your test result. The other email contains a link by the Lifebrain COVID lab. If you click on the link, you will be asked to enter your date of birth and then a PIN, which will be sent to your mobile phone number (two-factor identification). Then you will be able to download the medical report via a secure connection.

When establishing your user profile, you must enter your phone number twice in order to avoid transposition errors, such as reversed digits or similar. The system has automatic country identification and automatic error correction when entering an international country code. Together with the link you receive in the email from the Lifebrain COVID lab, you will also see the phone number to which the text message for secure registration is sent. Please check this phone number for correctness. If you have entered an incorrect number, please use the following web form – https://allesgurgelt.at/wien/feedback/ – or contact the service hotline 01/90 223 to open a ticket for error rectification. Test results can only be delivered if the phone number entered is the correct one. If you already have a user profile and have entered an incorrect phone number for the current test, please enter the correct phone number when taking your next test by clicking on “Wer wird jetzt getestet” (“Who is taking the test?”) under “Persönliche Daten ändern” (“Change personal data”). This is the only way to make sure that your change of phone number will be valid for all future tests.

It is important to input the data in the correct order. This means that you have to enter first the city/town, the street name and the postal code. Then the system will automatically suggest an existing address with the help of Google. Select this address and only then enter e.g. the number of your flat and/or “Stiege” (building unit). If you enter your flat number before this, Google may not be able to recognise your address and, thus, will not suggest one, resulting in a system error.

The Lifebrain COVID lab makes medical reports digitally available. As soon as the result is ready, you will receive an email containing a link that enables you to access the medical report and the Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate by entering your date of birth and a PIN, which you receive by text message/SMS, (two-factor authentication) to download the medical report and the Green Pass/EU Digital COVID Certificate. The certificate can also be downloaded via the LEAD Horizon web app. The medical report can only be accessed via the medical report portal of the Lifebrain COVID lab. It is NOT possible to send it by post!

If you have handed in your test sample after 2 p.m. at a REWE outlet in Vienna (BILLA, BILLA PLUS, BIPA, PENNY, or any petrol station shop of BP MERKUR inside, JET BILLA STOP&SHOP, SHELL BILLA Unterwegs), it is possible that it will only be picked up the next day, since the pick-up times of the Austrian Post are from 9 a.m. and from 2 p.m. Another reason might be that you have not completed the entry of your data in the web app. You should have received a confirmation email from LEAD Horizon with the note “All done!”. Results can only be delivered if all data were entered correctly. For further information on emails, see the question “I have received no email when registering – what is the problem?”.

The link to the lab report leads to a PDF file. Any device that is able to open a PDF file should also be able to open the lab report. If it is still not possible to open the report on your mobile phone, you have the option of opening the email on a computer and following the link to the lab report there. If you have conducted the process via the phone hotline, you can request your test result there.

If you have skipped the identity check or if the identity check was interrupted, you will still receive a test result, but no medical lab report and no Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate.

After evaluation of your sample, you will receive a medical laboratory report and the Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate, which you can submit to use close contact services.

The moment of sample collection is used to calculate the period of validity. Therefore, if you have collected the sample on Monday at 8 a.m., the result of your test is valid (retroactively) from this moment for 48 hours in Vienna and for 72 hours in all other Austrian provinces. For this reason, we recommend that you hand in your sample as soon as possible after performing the test.

You receive your test result in the form of a medical report as well as the Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate via the medical report portal of the Lifebrain COVID lab. The medical report shows medical information about the test result and can currently be used as an entrance test under the 3G rule. The EU Digital Covid Certificate contains a QR code, which can be read automatically and efficiently and can therefore be used as an entrance test. You can also download the Green Pass/EU Digital Covid Certificate via the LEAD Horizon web app.

Please ignore the text asking you to enclose an examination request. The procurement of materials for the „Alles gurgelt!“ campaign has to make use of the resources available. Please do not enclose either your testing instructions or any other documents, but just follow the web app instructions/the enclosed instructions.

The VACUETTE® (=test tube) can now be used for 12 instead of 9 months. You can therefore use the test tube for up to 3 months after the expiration date.

The information on the package (4 to 25 degrees Celsius) refers to long-term storage. It is no problem if this temperature is exceeded for a short time.
